The process involves psychological screening and/or therapy, (though some feel the requirement for therapy beyond screening is unwarranted), hormone treatments to alter secondary sex characteristics like hair growth, and can involve, but doesn't always, sexual reassignment surgery. Some Female to Male (FtM) transsexuals opt for just a double mastectomy, to remove breasts and reshape the chest, and a hysterectomy and associated surgeries to remove female internal organs. Others will have a genital reassignment procedure. In some the clitoris will be artificial enlarged hormonally; others will have a penis constructed with tissue grafts from other parts of the body.
